Homeopathic Relief When Menopause Sabotages Sleep

Getting a good night’s rest can be challenging for women during the “change of life.” In this post, Heidi Weinhold, ND, offers advice on using homeopathy instead of hormones to address menopausal sleep problems. For more tips and advice, visit DoctorHeidi.net.

Hot flashes are one of the common signs of menopause and a very real sleep interrupter. Profuse sweating and the cooldown that follows can cause frequent waking and make it difficult to fall back into restful sleep. And for some, these episodes can last months or even years.

If you are looking for a hormone-free option for hot flash relief during perimenopause and menopause, you should consider taking a homeopathic approach.

Lachesis mutus 30C is the most common homeopathic medicine for hot flashes and night sweats. It is prepared from the venom of the bushmaster viper and is safe to use when in homeopathic form. This medicine not only eases nights sweats but also addresses related mood changes. Many of my menopausal patients report sleeping better after taking Lachesis and experience lasting relief. I recommend taking 5 pellets at the onset of a hot flash or night sweat and repeat 3 times that day.

Lachesis is an active ingredient in Cyclease Menopause Tablets from Boiron. The combination formula contains other active ingredients, including plants like black cohosh (as the homeopathic preparation of Cimicifuga racemosa), which also helps with mood changes, irritability, and sleeplessness associated with menopause. In a randomized clinical study, Cyclease Menopause was shown to reduce the intensity and frequency of hot flashes. The dose is one tablet daily, day or night, and can repeat as needed up to four times in one day.

It can sometimes take a while before seeing a big difference in conditions related to hormones. For best results, Cyclease Menopause should be used daily for three months. Committing to a three-month cycle will improve your benefits through the menopause transition.

Because of hormonal fluctuations, some women may also struggle with racing thoughts at night — a “tired but wired” feeling. Consider taking homeopathic Coffea cruda 30C in the evening to address overactive thoughts and excessive worrying. Dissolve five pellets under the tongue before bedtime and repeat again if awoken in the middle of the night.

Lastly, treat yourself and others gently. Consider homeopathy to help with “the change” and embrace the wisdom of the lady in the mirror.

  1. Excellent website!! Many people suffer from sleeplessness from time to time, but menopause-related insomnia can last for weeks or months if not treated appropriately. I always recommend melatonin gummies for insomnia because they work better for me. – Nidra Nutrition
