Arsenic: From Poison to Healing Medicine

Last updated on November 22nd, 2023 at 05:11 pm

Nearly 500 years ago, Swiss physician Paracelsus famously wrote, “All things are poison and nothing is without poison; only the dose permits something not to be poisonous.” Such is the case with arsenic. Well known for its lethal abilities, arsenic has long been wielded for harm. However, in homeopathy, microdoses of this substance hold healing power.

Arsenic Through the Ages

Arsenic is an element found in nature and first identified by German alchemist and theologian St. Albertus Magnus in the 1200s, though its toxicity was recognized by ancient civilizations. It occurs in mineral ores and rocks that contain other valuable metals like copper and gold. For this reason, drinking sources from groundwater are sometimes contaminated.

During the founder of homeopathy Samuel Hahnemann’s time (1755-1843), conventional medical practices were brutal. Physicians would apply powered arsenic to wounds and skin lesions, often with fatal outcomes. Thankfully, progress in science and medicine now allows for the successful use of arsenic in medical treatments. Today, an injectable drug made with arsenic trioxide utilizes arsenic’s destructive power to target leukemia cancer cells.

Arsenicum Album

Known in homeopathy as Arsenicum album, this medicine is primarily used for treating gastrointestinal issues. It’s made from a careful and controlled preparation of arsenic trioxide with a dilution process that eliminates its toxic properties. Arsenicum album 30C relieves digestive cramps and diarrhea, often associated with traveler’s diarrhea or food poisoning when taken after each bowel movement.* In a 6C dilution, it’s also indicated for intense burning from frostnip improved by heat.* This medicine can be taken up to four times a day.

  1. I have known about Boiron medicine for many years but never used it. Lately I have been struggling with certain
    health issues and decided to try it. I have been pleased but I do have some questions;
    1. Do I use the Coffea Cruda @ night only or throughout the day for more effectiveness?
    2. Can I use more than one remedy at a time or do I need to space them apart? If so how far apart?
    3. I love the idea of coupons but I don’t live near a store that carries the Boiron products. The only way I can get
the products is through Amazon, delivered to my home.
Is there a store in Seattle, Washington or nearby that I might purchase the remedies and utilize my coupons?
Thank you for help, Kate Wren. 1 425 777-5622

    1. Hi Kate, thanks for your message. We recommend taking Coffea at the onset of symptoms, three times day. There is no need to stagger remedies apart; they can safely be taken together at the same time. You can find Boiron products at Pike Place Nutrition, Central Co-op and Whole Foods Market in Seattle, or visit our store locator to explore other retailers closest to you.

    1. Hi Donna, so sorry to hear about your problem. Homeopathic treatments for chronic conditions are very specific to each patient. There may be a homeopathic treatment that addresses your condition, but we recommend consulting a practitioner knowledgeable in homeopathy. If you do not have a practitioner, please contact the National Center for Homeopathy at info@homeopathycenter.org or visit http://www.homeopathycenter.org.

  2. Bottom line, Is the arsenic album 12X HPUS in products like Hyland’s Restful Legs, safe for someone to take longterm? Especially someone with fatty liver disease, or NAFL?
    Thank you.

    1. Hi Scott G.,
Boiron’s Arsenicum album relieves diarrhea with vomiting and weakness and we recommend stopping use and asking a doctor if your symptoms persist for more than 3 days or worsen.
We cannot speak to Hyland’s Naturals products or their uses.
For a condition such as NAFL, we recommend consulting with your healthcare provider before taking any medicines.
      Thanks!
